Alasya Turkish Restaurant

At Alasya we’re old school.

‘Alasya’ is the old Ottoman word meaning Cyprus – an east Mediterranean island about one-tenth the size of Tasmania.

It’s no surprise then, that the founders of the business – Cihan and Cemal – both hail from the ancient island. Indeed they met and married in a quaint, little restaurant called Alasya and immigrated to Australia shortly after.

In 1978 Cihan and Cemal established Alasya Restaurant. Alasya started life as a single, tiny shopfront dishing up home-style Turkish cuisine. Since then, Alasya has gone through many transformations, expanding into a multi-dimensional business including a retail butcher, wholesale bakery, a large restaurant, and corporate catering.

Discover Delicious Foods

“My first time here 1986 and l think the furniture is still the same. Not a bad thing it has the middle eastern feeling with a great spread of meats dips freshly baked bread and the sweets unbelievable. Kebabs to dishes still going strong. Very friendly and until now could be same owners. Baking their own sweets with that syrup making my mouth water.”

“Always a great place. always something tasty I went there at 1 a.m. to get something for my partner and the guy behind the counter was very nice.
He went out of his way to get me something that wasn’t available so I was very impressed.”

“We enjoy eating at this place. The food is simple, delicious and affordable. A dinner for two with generous plates and Turkish delicatessen desert will go for $45. The experience is very authentic, like a big turkish bakery that serves hot food — a kind of place very usual in Turkey. The service is outstanding, competent and courteous. Definitely a place to try at Sydney road.”
